HSHL Red Wings Soar to Victory: Top Players Lead the Team to Success Despite Tough 2023

By Derek Sheahan (Red Wings) On Monday 1st January 2024 / 1:46pm

Hold on to your seats because the HSHL Red Wings are storming the ice! Despite a tough December, the team and their dedicated fans have fought hard and emerged victorious. With 38 goals and 58 assists in 15 games, the Red Wings have been on fire, thanks to the outstanding performances of Alex Wennberg, Marcus Johansson, Brendan Gallagher, and Danton Heinen. And let's not forget the rookies, Elmer Soderblom and Mason Shaw, who have contributed to the team's success.

The excitement doesn't stop there. Juraj Slafkovsky and Jet Greaves debuted, and the latter remained the backup to Joonas Korpisalo. The team's resilience and determination are beyond inspiring, and they deserve all the accolades. Let's give a shout-out to the top guys who have gone above and beyond to make the Red Wings the best team in Detroit.

First up is Alex Wennberg, the 1st Line Center, who has been an absolute powerhouse on the ice. Wennberg leads the team in points with 32 and has put forth an incredible 18 points in December alone. He's not just a scorer; he's also a team player, as evidenced by his 25 assists and 28 blocked shots. Wennberg's dedication to the game is second to none, and the team is lucky to have him.

Next on the list is Marcus Johansson, the owner of the lead in goals for the Red Wings. With 13 goals and 18 assists, Johansson has been a game-changer for the team. He's been instrumental in boosting the confidence of his teammates, allowing them to take shots and score. His 131 shots at net and 9.92% shot percentage are a testament to his incredible skills.

But wait, there's more! Brandon Gallagher has been a driving force on the team, with a 13-point December and 25-point overall production. He's been a crucial player, helping his teammates find their footing on the ice. And let's not forget Danton Heinen, who has been on fire lately, with 12 points in December and 22 overall. Heinen's efficiency with shooting and points per 20 minutes is impressive, and he's quickly become a fan favorite.

Last but not least, the rookies have been killing it on the ice. Elmer Soderblom has been a force to be reckoned with, leading the team with three powerplay goals and providing 16 points overall. Mason Shaw may have a quieter presence, but he's been a valuable player nonetheless, with 7 points to his name. And let's not forget Jet Greaves, who has been phenomenal as Korpisalo's backup. In just three games, he's shown what he's made of, with a 3.00 GAA and a .917 save percentage.

The Red Wings are on their way to greatness, and with Korpisalo and the defensive core playing at their best and the first-line players dominating the game, there's no limit to what they can achieve. The team has the support of their fans, who will be cheering them on every step of the way. So let's keep up the hard work, Detroit, and make 2024 a year to remember!

Red Wings Tires Spin in the Frozen December Cold as Jets Soar Past 3-1

By Derek Sheahan (Red Wings) On Thursday 21st December 2023 / 1:18pm

It was an impressive win for the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday night as they played against the Detroit Red Wings at BellMTS Place. I can only imagine how excited the Jets fans must feel right now! With a final score of 3-1, the Jets have improved their record to 17-12-2, which is definitely something to be proud of. On the other hand, I can understand how the Red Wings supporters may feel disappointed with their team's record now falling to 9-19-4. Regardless, both teams played their best and gave it their all.

The Jets came out firing on all cylinders, quickly putting two goals past Joonas Korpisalo in the first period. The fans were barely in their seats when Anton Lundell fired a quick snapshot past Korpisalo, sending the crowd into a frenzy. The Jets continued to dominate, peppering Korpisalo with 14 shots on net. Then, just before the end of the period, Kirill Kaprizov scored a beauty on a slashing double minor power play, giving the Jets a two-goal lead.

But the Red Wings weren't about to go down without a fight. They came out strong in the second period, determined to get back in the game. Danton Heinen fired a screaming slap shot from the high slot, bringing the score to 2-1 in favor of the Jets. The Red Wings didn't stop there, unleashing a flurry of shots at Darcy Kuemper, taking the lead in the shot department 18-17 going into the third period.

The game was far from over; the third period was when the Red Wings really started to shine. Their fans, who had made the trip to Winnipeg, were on their feet, chanting, "Third period is our period!" The players responded to the energy, throwing everything they had at Kuemper. But Marc-Edouard Vlasic's holding penalty gave the Jets a power play, and they took full advantage. One minute into the power play, Andre Burakovsky scored a beautiful goal after a perfect pass from Troy Terry, sealing the edge for the Jets. It was a thrilling game from start to finish, and the Jets came out on top thanks to their incredible teamwork and skill.

What a game it was! The Jets and Red Wings clashed in an intense battle on the ice, with the Jets coming out on top with a thrilling 30-27 shot victory. But that wasn't all, folks! The Jets dominated the faceoffs with an impressive 63% success rate and had a fantastic powerplay conversion rate of 33%. Darcy Kuemper was an absolute beast in goal, making 26 saves and earning the well-deserved first star of the match. Korpisalo also put up a solid performance with 27 saves for the Red Wings. With this victory, the Jets have secured a 2-game winning streak. They are sitting in fourth place in the highly competitive Central Division. Meanwhile, the Red Wings are struggling to find their footing, having lost their last five games and are dangerously close to falling to the bottom of the Atlantic Division standings.

What a night for hockey fans! The atmosphere was electric as the Jets and Red Wings faced off in a thrilling game. The Jets displayed incredible skill, lightning-fast speed, and unwavering resilience, impressing their fans, who cheered them on loudly. Meanwhile, the Red Wings' lack of depth, discipline, and defense was apparent as they struggled to keep up with the Jets, proving why they are one of the weakest teams in the league. It was a rollercoaster of emotions, with the Jets soaring high and the Red Wings crashing down. This was definitely a game that will be remembered for a long time!

Red Wings Experience Groundhog Day Early with Back-to-Back 5-3 losses

By Derek Sheahan (Red Wings) On Monday 18th December 2023 / 12:00pm

The Detroit Red Wings have had a tough time on the ice lately, with back-to-back losses against the Philadelphia Flyers and the Anaheim Ducks. Despite their best efforts, the Red Wings fell short against both teams, extending their losing streak to four games and leaving them seventh-worst in the HSHL standings.

The Flyers, on the other hand, are on a roll, with a 15-10-5 record and an impressive winning streak. They dominated the Red Wings, thanks to rookie Alexei Toropchenko's two goals and Chandler Stephenson's three assists. Max Domi and David Krejci also contributed with a goal and an assist each, while Carter Hart made 28 saves. Although the Red Wings put up a fight on unfamiliar ice, scoring in each period, the Flyers held their ground and outplayed them. Casey Cizikas, Danton Heinen, and Mason Shaw added a goal for the Red Wings, while Marcus Johansson, Brendan Gallagher, Alex Wennberg, and Vinnie Hinostroza chipped in with assists. Semyon Varlamov made 27 stops, but it was not enough to prevent the Wings from losing to the Flyers.

The Red Wings returned home on Monday to face the Anaheim Ducks, but they couldn't shake off their losing streak and ended up losing 5-3 again. The Ducks extended their winning streak to three games, putting them in sixth place in the Pacific Division with an impressive 18-11-2 record. Tim Stutzle led the Ducks with two goals and an assist, while Matty Beniers, Adrian Kempe, and Dmitry Kulikov also scored. Marc-Andre Fleury made 33 saves to help secure the victory.

The Red Wings' second line stepped up their game, with Brendan Gallagher scoring two goals and Wennberg providing support with assists on all three goals. However, Varlamov struggled in goal, allowing five of the Ducks' 25 shots to slip by him. Joonas Korpisalo came in at the six-minute mark of the third period to stop the bleeding.

Despite outshooting the Ducks 36-27, the Red Wings couldn't contain the Ducks' top line, which combined for seven points. The Red Wings managed to convert one of their two power plays, but the Ducks were perfect, scoring on both power-play opportunities.

The Red Wings' recent losing streak may have dampened their spirits. Still, they can bounce back in their upcoming games against the Winnipeg Jets, the Philadelphia Flyers, and the New Jersey Devils. Meanwhile, the Ducks are gearing up for an exciting eight-game home stand, starting with a clash against the red-hot Calgary Flames. It will be interesting to see if the Red Wings can turn things around and end their losing streak when they face the Ducks again at the Honda Center.

Red Wings Lose Again as Winged Tires No Match for Hurricane Winds.

By Derek Sheahan (Red Wings) On Thursday 14th December 2023 / 12:20pm

The Detroit Red Wings have set a goal for themselves for the rest of the season: get 20 wins. The road felt like home, starting with a 3-2 victory against the Dallas Stars. That feeling turned sour quickly with a 6-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues the next day, followed by a frustrating 3-1 home loss to the visiting Carolina Hurricanes today.

The Red Wings showed resilience and determination in their win over the Stars, who were coming off a bitter 6-2 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights before facing Detroit. The Red Wings never let the Stars see the lead, taking a 1-1 tie into the third period, adding goals from Danton Heinen and Alex Wennberg to give them the lead and the victory. Wennberg had two goals and his team-leading 15th assist of the season, while Heinen netted one goal and two assists. Cementing his presence to the second line of the Red Wings squad alongside Brendan Gallagher and Alex Wennberg. Joonas Korpisalo capped off the stellar performance with 29 saves and a .935 save percentage for the night.

The Red Wings hoped to bring Proto-Punk to St. Louis, but they ran into too many tonal octaves in the form of the Blues, who had also won two in a row. The Blues dominated the game from start to finish, scoring three goals in the first two periods. Sidney Crosby had a hat trick, while St. Louis' rookie Andrei Kuzmenko had a goal and an assist. The Red Wings had no answer for the Blues' offense, and their defense looked porous and sloppy. Korpisalo, making another appearance for this back-to-back, allowed six goals on 44 shots, and Heinen and Marcus Johansson scored the only goals for Detroit.

Heading home for a one-game appearance, The Red Wings hoped to build on their win over the Dallas Stars on Monday. Still, they were outplayed and outworked by the Carolina Hurricanes, who snapped their three-game losing streak. The Hurricanes scored one goal in the first period by Adam Larsson and one in the second by J.T. Miller. They sealed it in the third with a snapshot by Pavel Buchnevich. The Red Wings had some chances to get back in the game, getting a Casey Cizikas goal at the start of the second period. Still, they were denied by the stellar goaltending of Igor Shesterkin, who made 30 saves. The Hurricanes efficiently handled the Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena, scoring thrice in 18 tries and boasting a 16% shooting percentage.

The Red Wings are now 9-16-4 on the season, and they will head out to the city of Brotherly Love to face the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday. The Red Wings will look to bounce back from their lopsided loss and find consistency in their game. The Red Wings are still in the deep depths of the Atlantic Division, fighting for air. They have shown flashes of potential and competitiveness. They are asking for help from their top players, such as Alex Wennberg, Marcus Johansson, and Brady Skjei. They must play more urgently and intensely to climb up to their obtainable goal of 20 wins in the season.

Detroit Dismayed by Double Defeat to San Jose and Ottawa

By Derek Sheahan (Red Wings) On Saturday 9th December 2023 / 3:55pm

The Detroit Red Wings had a chance to improve their position in the Atlantic Division standings. Unfortunately, they lost both games of their two-game home stand. First, they fell to the visiting San Jose Sharks in overtime, with a score of 3-2 on Thursday. Then, they lost to the Ottawa Senators 4-2 on Saturday. As a result, the Red Wings (8-14-4) remain tied for sixth place in the division with the Montreal Canadiens. They are now 9 points behind the fifth-place Metropolitan team, Philadelphia Flyers, who are currently holding the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

The San Jose Sharks, with a record of 15 wins, 7 losses, and 5 ties, were coming off a tough loss to the Islanders. However, the team bounced back with a win against the Detroit Red Wings in their latest game. Sharks GM Nicholas Caughill praised the team's performance and credited the goals from Walker Duehr, Ilya Mikheyev, and Teuvo Teravainen for the victory. Vitek Vanecek, the Sharks' goaltender, made 26 saves, while Joonas Korpisalo, the Red Wings' goaltender, stopped 28 shots. Detroit managed to tie the game twice, once in the second period with a power-play goal by Marc-Edouard Vlasic and again in the third period with a deflection by Jason Dickinson. Teravainen eventually scored the game-winner with less than a minute left in overtime, beating Korpisalo with a wrist shot from the left circle.

The Senators have managed to extend their winning streak to six with their recent victory over the Red Wings. They scored two goals in less than a minute during the third period, which helped them seal the win. Ottawa's Rasmus Sandin, David Pastrnak, Leon Draisaitl, and Mikael Granlund scored goals, while Jordan Binnington made 31 saves. The Red Wings managed to score two goals, one from Jarred Tinordi and the other from Michael Stone, but they couldn't overcome the Senators' offensive surge. Tinordi, who was benched in the previous game, has successfully proven his worth as a top-line defensive player alongside Brady Skjei, and Coach Quinn has decided to keep him there for the foreseeable future. The fans in Hockeytown continue to support their beloved Red Wings, packing the stadium for every game to cheer on their team during this quasi-rebuild phase.

The Detroit Red Wings will attempt to recover from their recent loss when they hit the road for back-to-back games against the Dallas Stars and the St. Louis Blues on Monday. On Sunday, the San Jose Sharks will travel to T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas to play against the Golden Knights. Meanwhile, the Ottawa Senators will host the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday.
